If you are familiar with the art work of Rien Poortvliet, and you love horses, you are in for a treat. This book does not disappoint!
Rien covers horses of all shapes, sizes and colors, from tiny little Shetland ponies to towering draft horses, Arabians to thoroughbreds, dainty prancers to heavy haulers, and everywhere in beween.
Yes, this book does tend to be a bit pricey, but in my opinion, very well worth it, especially if you really love horses, art, or the other works of Rien Poortvliet.
His pen, ink, watercolor and acrylic work is unsurpassed. One of the few artists who really captures the spirit of everything he paints, from outdoor scenes to animals to farm buildings and tools.
This would be on my wish list if I didn't already have it!!

For Horse Lovers
Rien Poortvliet's Horses is an exceptional book, not to be overlooked by anyone with an interest in horses, or superb art. The book is centered in the Netherlands, and the place of horses in the Dutch culture. Poortviet was Dutch, and many of the copies of this fine book will be in the Dutch language, which detracts only slightly, (copies of the English language version are more difficult to find.) You can still enjoy the art, and most of the situations depicted are visually explained.
All of the books by Poortviet are wonderful, but for a horse lover, HORSES is exceptional.
