There was a gate at the top of the stairs, since this was the nursery floor; but it was Open. There was a room behind me, and in the room on my left my sister was sitting, playing also. The memory is simply a flash. I did not even during the course of it look round and actually see my sister; but I must have done so shortly before, since I was conscious she was there. The only time I remember her appearance was once when we both 'naughtily pushed our way through a hole in the garden fence. Another flash. She was in front of me that time.
