First published in "Short Stories" magazine in 1929 this book tells the stroy of a frightened kid who had left eight years before and now has returned as a man--Hugh Kingmead. He is back to reclaim his ranch, and this time he will fight to see justice done. This is an excellent short novel. One not to miss, as it displays all of Ernest Haycox's talent as a writer, and how even then he was working to make his books historical and yet every day, so everyone could see themselves in his books. He made his characters typical people living in normal day to day circumstances until something unusual happened, then had them react as most people really would--quite a difficult task when it come to writing and wanting your readers to become involved with the story. Great book!
