They require a taste cultivated, enlarged tender, refined, exalted: they require an intimate knowlege of the cotemporary history of the principal Nations of Europe: they require a profound and philosophic in sight into the movements of Cabinets: but what they most of all require (next to taste) is an erudition fa miliar with all the details of the revival of learning, which at this time was in the full vigour of the new expanse of its Wings.
