I found reason to doubt the reality of the cases thua reported generally on information received from Chowkeedars. If so many thieves were interrupted when about to commit thefts it is strange that so few of them were caught. I remarked on this anomaly in the first Quarterly Return for the year and very few cases of the kind are now inserted. 49. The result in the.cases of house-breaking for commission of theft is also satisfactory. Nearly half the number of persons supposed to have been concerned having been convicted. 50. The convictious of a still larger proportion of the persons charged as receivers of stolen property is equally creditable to the Police, and amongst the cases were two of the receipt of property obtained by dacoity as noticed in paragraph 38 of this Report. 51. The extortion cases and cases of criminal breach of trust and other cases of this class are passed over by the Deputy Commissioner as not deserving of particular mention. One of the Rural Police under the new organization exercising powers as Sub-Inspector. 52. The subjoined Tabular memorandum will show the operations of the Police in recovering stolen or plundered property. The Table is a very satisfactory one 13th Class.--Offences relating to Documents and to Trade or Property Marks. 53.
