Seller's Description:
8vo. 168 pp., 4 engraved plates. Printed by order of the Senate. Green patterned cloth, splits at joints, pink endpapers. A presentation copy, inscribed to George Harrison Esq. from the author. Featherstonhaugh was the first to be employed as a geologist by the U.S. government. Seemingly he gifted a number of copies of this book, almost always without the map. Geology being a relatively new science, in the first part he familarizes the reader with various geological terms and what was known of the geology of the U.S. at the time.
