Perry, of South Paris, Me., some, crystals which he immediately recognized as topaz. The locality from which they came was Harndon Hill, in the town of Stoneham, Oxford County, and subsequent explorations by Mr. Kunz and Mr. Perry brought to light much interesting material.1 Later, the place became famous as a source of the very rare species herderite; and, in addition to this mineral and topaz, the locality has yielded speci mens of albite (var. Cleavelandite), apatite, autunite, biotite, beryl, columbite, damourite, fluorite, gahnite, garnet, muscovite, orthoclase, quartz, triplite, and zircon, together with other material of an obscure' or doub tful character.
