Subsequently it was translated to the oilfields of the Middle East - Qatar (Offshore and Onshore), Abu Dhabi (ADMA and ADCO) and Oman (PDO) where its success was repeated. The Aberdeen Universities next collaborated with the UAE University in Abu Dhabi to evaluate telemedicine and achieved similar inroads in remote education and remote healthcare, particularly in both undergraduate and postgraduate transcontinental medical education. The various chapters in this book discuss the background to these conclusions together with practical aspects on the management of medical, surgical and psychiatric emergencies in remote places and the establishment of general practice and pharmaceutical services in remote locations. It also covers such areas as preparation for disasters, diving and hyperbaric medicine, environmental medicine: Heat and cold and basic travel medicine together with the special first aid approach for all these situations.
