Underground has a very East-meets-West outlook -- dance music, reggae, electronica, funk, and hip-hop are combined with elements of Indian, Middle Eastern, and African music. Synthesizers and keyboards are prominent, but the high-tech element is combined with everything from Indian tabla drums and sitar to the saz, a string instrument associated with traditional Turkish music. Not surprisingly, Rejoice, Rejoice was ignored by commercial radio, although some club DJs realized just how much Underground had going for it.
