This unique book is about the recognition, understanding, and pursuit of truth by a critique of its opposites in seven forms of Lying, Cheating, Denial, Delusion, Deception, Pretension, and Withholding. The message is framed metaphorically by describing a central Texas town near where I live, "Realville." Our trip here to Realville allows us to see a kaleidoscopic view of how to achieve truthfulness as we move along the four streets surrounding the central courthouse square: Integrity Boulevard, Face It Street, Openness Way, and Aw-shucks Road. On Integrity Boulevard we see what it means to avoid lying and cheating. We see and learn on Face It Street how to see things as they really are, as opposed to denying reality or deluding ourselves. The scene on Openness Way lets us see and correct our unseemly passive aggressive tendencies of withholding information. On Aw-shucks Road, we see that we no longer need to preen and posture to make ourselves valued. This book's three foundational chapters show readers how to: 1. Recognize untruthfulness in any of its forms, 2. Analyze what causes people to be untruthful, even unintentionally, 3. Employ strategies to become more truthful themselves and thus more trustworthy.
