The program includes not only Barbara Strozzi but her less often recorded Renaissance predecessor Maddalena Casulana, an associate of Isabella de' Medici. These works are arranged for string orchestra; the Strozzi madrigal Lagrime mie is the sole work with vocals. Some may want the album for the little-heard Casulana alone.
