Good texts, bad layout
Although the range of texts offered in this book is great and the short introductory passage to each piece is helpful, the footnote system drives me crazy. When translating Latin, I hate having to flip pages to find whatever quirky turn of phrase some medieval scholar has invented to make the sentence make sense, and this book (whether on purpose or due to poor editing) has just that problem. To keep from having to break up large blocks of text over several pages, they have simply put in what could be better termed endnotes for each section as to the particulars of the previous Latin. Sadly, this breaks an otherwise fair book for me. If such things don't bother you, translate on, but I prefer something more like
