This story is worthy of reading out loud every year, as my father did. (This will take more than one night.) One does not need to be Christian or have any particular spiritual practice to enjoy both the writing and the message.
It is a heartening story of preparation to herald the birth of Jesus and the results thereof. It adds depth and perspective to the frenetic December we all now experience. Thinking of Raphael and his travails and his ultimate revelation still brings tears of joy and redemption to my eyes.
