Nice Dictionary, If You Don't Already Own Original
Please remember, this is a review about the dictionary I bought, not about the seller.
I'm a person who will always prefer a good dictionary & thesaurus in hardcover copy version to all other versions. I bought a newer version of the dictionary I already own (see picture above), even though my dictionary is still in fine shape. The only 'problem' with it has always been its heft, and I don't consider lugging around a heavy book a fun way to stay in shape.
I thought I had 'done all of my homework" about the Second Edition of this dictionary. Several sources said it was supposed to be more comprehensive, more current (obviously important), and much more compact! The new edition was supposed to be 1/4 - 1/3 less thick than the original.
Well, I received my new dictionary today, but I haven't had the time to confirm if it's more comprehensive and current than my original. However, I can confirm it's NOT more compact. It's the exact same thickness; it weighs the same amount (yes, I checked); it has the same number of pages, and the text is the same size.
You can already guess I'm very disappointed I bought the newer version of this dictionary. It cost far more than my original, which I was able to see because I bought it IN a bookstore. Also, my newer version has been sitting on a bookshelf for a while, because some of the pages are yellowed.
I would only recommend you buy this version of this dictionary if you don't already own one suitable for your needs.
By the way, I'm not terribly old. I did earn my degrees in English & English Literature, and have been a College Professor, so I do know the value of owning books based upon need and use.
