With their cathedral-like trees, lush green groundcover, and swirling cloaks of mist, the temperate rainforests of the Northwest American continent have long been a source of wonder, not-to-mention source of natural raw materials. Rainforest captures the mystery and majesty of these ancient forests in an eloquent text by Wade Davis and the stunning nature photography of Graham Osborne. The result is a powerful tribute to a rare and beautiful ecosystem, as well as a compelling plea to save it.

Patience is the byword for this masterful work. Varying from misty overviews to macroscopic detail, these pictures give an inkling of the sweeping biodiversity of one of only two non-tropical rainforests in the world. We lived in Tacoma Washington for three years, and we made the trip to the Ho Rain Forest--an awe-inspiring experience. This book accurately portrays the majesty of the biologic richness to be found in the rain forest. I find I can feast on only two or three of the photographs at bedtime, and save the rest for another day. The text fills in some background about this zone of wonder within our nation. I bought one for each of my children.
