I have always had a fascination with the crash of '29. I was working in the insurance field back in the mid 80's when we saw a mini-crash, and always wondered what causes these occurrences. Rainbow's End is factual without being dry. It shows the movement of American society from frugal reserve to a full blown borrow and spend society, consumed with the gathering of "things". It weaves a tapestry, showing the rise of independent investing, the social changes and mindset of the American public through the description of how the Wall Street heavyweights came into being, and how we changed our entire focus of how we wanted to live. I can't recommend this book highly enough.
