Published in 2002 after the tragedy of 9/1/01 and fear of terrorism developed a fear of all strnagers, this book addresses the fear of strangers and invites the reader to develop a Benedictine spirit of hospitality. The Rule of Benedict was writtaen when the world centered around ancient Rome had crumbled. Individual license overcame the traditional rules of hospitality. The authors--a Benedictine monk and a lay woman who practices Benedictine values--have written a book previously--BENEDICT'S WAY: AN ANCIENT MONK'S INSIGHTS FOR A BALANCED LIFE. RADICAL HOSPITALITY has a narrower focus. It is also enhanced by having a companion booklet--A COMPANION GUIDE TO RADICAL HOSPITALITY written by Robert Gibson. This compansion guide makaes the set ideal for group discussions and for a deeper study by the individual reader. There are ten chapters in the book which can provide material for a two-year study cycle. I highly recommend these books for those seeking a more stable and hospitable way of life and are attracted by the Benedictine approach.
