Foreword by R.C. Gorman. 12.25"x9.25", 194 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. In this retrospective, major pieces from three previously published works-R.C. Gorman: The Lithographs, R.C. Gorman: The Posters, and R.C. Gorman: The Drawings-demonstrate the development and focus of almost three decades (1952 to 1981) of one of America's most recognized artists. R.C. Gorman's art stems from his environment, culture, imagination, emotions: the shapes, colors, and inspirations provided by his Navajo heritage and Southwestern home are clearly discernable in the sketches, drawings, lithographs, and posters reproduced here. "The Picasso of Indian Artists, " as he is sometimes called, Gorman has become most widely known for his portraits of Navajo women and for his economy of line and use of color. These images are, of course, included. However, the not-as-well-known work focusing on ceremonial masks and geometric rug designs is also included and adds further dimension to that which is popularly considered to be "typically Gorman."
