The Putumayo Playground line of records has a sophisticated feel to it in a sense. The music is chosen for kids' enjoyment, but it's rarely dumbed down. It's basic world music, but with a tone and tempo that fits well for kids. The albums are surprisingly suitable for adults as well though, given the breadth of music and content. On Folk Playground, Putumayo has what's probably the most strictly kid-oriented album yet. Folksingers from around the horn contribute a track here, with some old standards, some new compositions with a full backup band, and even a stray Disney song put into Texas swing. The tone of the album is perfectly fit for a kids set, and the songs are original enough to avoid some of the pain for parents involved with the massive overplay inherent to anything owned by kids.
