The subject-matter has been taken from ancient authors where it was possible, but the final form is the work of those whose names are on the title-page. Mr. Jones has been responsible for the first twenty two pages. The authors wish to acknowledge in no perfunctory manner the kindness of their colleague, Mr. E. Broome.
