"Psychology of African American Race Socialization" provides a framework for conceptualizing the diversity that exists among African Americans. This text also provides selective coverage of both theory and outcomes related to the race socialization process. The author, Julie Stokes, examines several parameters crucial to understanding the extent to which race socialization directly influences African American adolescents and college students, including: ethnic identification, self-esteem, and the interrelation between ethnic identification and self-esteem. The results indicated that race socialization strategies are related to youths' and college students' ethnic identity and self-esteem. The features include: clearly defined learning objectives; chapters written in an engaging manner; a set of reflection questions at the end of each chapter; and a text, which provides a selective representation of material designed to explore the diversity among African Americans.
