The book presents the major perspectives of the discipline in a balanced and scholarly manner, with attention to, but not excessive, detail and up-to-date coverage of major research studies. "Psychology vs Common Sense" sections found in each chapter examine common sense notions in light of research. Using information media (journals, newspapers, the Internet) as the source, the "Thinking Critically About Psychology and the Media" feature teaches students to think critically about information and teaches them to evaluate claims by using research studies as a guide. A list of critical thinking questions based on the material presented in the chapter. This is designed as a reinforcing exercise that tests students' comprehension of the chapter content.
