After loving Laurie Halse Anderson's previous two novels (Speak and Catalyst) and also appreciating her earlier work (Fever 1793), this novel was a major letdown. Far too whimsical for readers expecting another novel similar to her previous ones, it falls short of expectations. One can only hope Halse Anderson's future writing is more on par and back to her previous successes. Nonetheless, this book will have destroyed the "rush out and buy it without reading anything about it" haze that I found myself in after her first three novels - the question is, will the damage of this book be repareable in her future writing career or not?
