In fact, the only issue this album has is that it ends. Shaham's playing is at its absolute best; it is edgy, passionate, and completely riveting from beginning to end. His variety of tone colors seems to be endless, from guttural, satisfying scratchy sounds to the most haunting and ethereal of sotto voce and every imaginable shade in between. His interpretations are full of successfully taken risks, and even though there are a few blemished notes here and there, the musical aspects of his performance far outweigh any such minor faults, which only go to prove that even Gil Shaham is human.
