The situation continues here, with a dry, pristine Symphony No. 1 in D major, Op. 25 ("Classical"), Prokofiev's apotheosis of a neoclassicism that would run for 30 more years without really exceeding this high-water mark. Litton drills the strings and gets clean lines in the first movement's second subject and the barely-slow Larghetto second movement, and the whole performance has a bracing quality.
