Beyond these is the relative rarity of the music. Slobodeniuk programs some early and some late Prokofiev, none of it terribly commonly played. The Gambler Suite, despite its middle-period opus number, was assembled from an opera, The Gambler, Op. 24, based on Dostoyevsky and completed in 1917. It's inventively assembled, with four movements each drawn from the music for a single character, plus a "Dénouement." The entr'acte, the tone poem Autumnal, Op. 8, is even earlier, from 1910, and it's an attractive, compact late Romantic piece that would be a real crowd-pleaser if performed more often.
