Now, there were very many who voted for this proposition when it was finally adopted who did so because they thought that something should be settled; they were willing to yield their views in order that a conclusion might be reached. I hoped for one that when this matter was settled it would be finally settled, and that it would not be called up a second time to have the same questions threshed out which were gone over on the prior occasion. If we are going to continue this practice there is no telling how long this Convention will remain in session; and there is no telling whether in the closing days of the session, having reconsidered some of these matters, we may not be rushed into doing something which we will afterwards regret. I hope, gentlemen, that this motion to reconsider will prevail, and that the conclusion which we reached the other day will be adhered to. MR. THOMAS: Mr. President, I do not believe anything is settled until it is settled rightly; and if we made a mistake in relation to this proposition sometime ago, I believe now is the time to rectify that mistake; and before we submit a Constitution that is full of mistakes, I for one am willing to stay here another month in order to get the Constitution right. Now, gentlemen, shortly after this question was decided a couple weeks ago. I happened over in the city of Grand Rapids; I happened into a room where there were about three hundred voters of that city, and, gentlemen, I do not believe there was a man there who did not have on a white collar and a boiled shirt and a good clean necktie.
