Ninian would bargain with the neighbor to return the cow if Ninian replanted the lost corn and Ninian would repair the broken frence. The King gave the corn and wood to Ninian if he did the work. And Claire promised to buy cheese from Ninian's mother so they could save enough for medicine to make his father well.
