This version of Pride and Prejudice is set in a Mormon college - a convenient device to explain why people don't have sex! The film is no masterpiece (it gets just 5.4 on IMDB), but it's watchable. Mr Collins is as obnoxious - perhaps more obnoxious - than he is in the book, while making Elizabeth a would be novelist (and Darcy a publisher) does have a sort of resonance.
At the end it descends into an even broader farce than the earlier sections. Lydia running away with Wickham to marry in Vegas is a nice idea as an updating but the (almost) marriage scene is too silly for words ....
If you are going to watch Pride & Prejudice, I'd suggest Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle in the film of the BBC mini-series. And I'm pleased to see IMDB agrees with me.
