Those who consider Truman Capote to be primarily a supreme prose stylist can sometimes forget what a substantial body of work he has created. This volume collects most of his non fiction in one place, and one can only marvel at the range and reach of the topics covered even as one slowly but surely comes under the hypnotic spell of Capote's perfect prose. However, while this is a long overdue and welcome addition to the Capote revival, the editorial quality of the book is very disappointing. There are no bibliographical notes, and not even a proper introductory piece to go with the republication of these enchanting and important non fiction gems. But then, at the end of the day, the quality of the material makes up for the shabby way they have been put together.
