Original light green cloth, red, yellow and dark green embossed bouquet of four poppies and two ears of wheat, and stamped gilt lettering on front board, dark green lettering on spine, 54 pp + 2 pp of ads for "The Children's Friend Series", with this title listed among the "New Issues", illustrated with 3 plates by E (Edmund? ) Prand. Hardcover, very good, no dustjacket. Corners and head and foot of spine rubbed, with a few approximately 1/32 inch nicks, lettering on spine just slightly rubbed. Internally, MISSING free front endpapers (starts with frontispiece), three approximately 1/8 inch nicks in front gutter, foxing on paste-down front endpaper and first few leaves, a few faint smudges on title page, plate facing p. 50 is creased, with some foxing on it and adjoining leaves, paper lightly age yellowed, otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked.
