The term political cultural history does not signify the approach of political cultural research, which particularly in the 1970s and 1980s witnessed a boom in the field of political science. Much more so it takes aim at the totality of mental constructs (ideas) and the more or less conscious approach and affective attitudes that define the world perception of individuals and social groups and thus determine their socio-political and cultural orientation. The more or less conscious sense that drives and controls action is thus sought. German text. German description: Der hier vorgelegte Sammelband vereinigt Aufsatze zur politischen Kulturgeschichte des deutschen Burgertums im 19. und in der ersten Halfte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Mit politischer Kulturgeschichte ist nicht der Ansatz der politischen Kultur-Forschung gemeint, der vor allem in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren in der Politikwissenschaft eine gewisse Konjunktur erlebt hat. Vielmehr soll damit die Gesamtheit der gedanklichen Konstrukte ( Ideen ) und der mehr oder weniger bewussten Einstellungen und affektiven Haltungen gemeint sein, die die Weltwahrnehmung von Individuen und gesellschaftlichen Gruppen und damit ihre gesellschaftlich-politische und kulturelle Orientierung bestimmen. Gefragt wird also nach dem mehr oder weniger bewussten Sinn, der dem Handeln verliehen wird und der es steuert.
