This collection brings together many shorter pieces otherwise available only in difficult to obtain journals. Howell was a pioneer in his various fields of rhetoric from the renaissance through the 19th century, and his work continues to set the bar after more than 60 years. He writes readably too: a bonus which does not always come with sound research.
