From March 7, 1968 to April 1, 1977 he was imprisoned by Taiwan authorities. After his release, he has become one of the most highly respected writers in Taiwan. To date Bo Yang has produced fifty two volumes, including works of fiction, essays, reportage, historical studies and poetry. He is currently engaged in adapting historical chronicles from classical to modern Chinese. This book of poems was completed during Bo Yang's confinement of over nine years in prison. He gives the reader a penetrating glimpse of both the author's inner spirit and the face he showed to the world, while illuminating the national background to this period.
