Seller's Description:
None. Good. A selection of poems by the writer of Hymns for the Church of England, Reginald Heber. Uncommon. Reginald Heber (1783 1826) was a Church of England bishop, now remembered chiefly as a hymn-writer. Heber was a pious man of profound learning, literary taste and great practical energy. His fame rests mainly on his hymns. These include: "Bread of the World" "Brightest and best of the sons of the morning" "By cool Siloam's shady rill" "God, that madest earth and heaven" "From Greenland's icy mountains", which was the missionary hymn most frequently printed in 19th century American hymnals "Holy, holy, holy" "Lord of mercy and of might" "The Lord of might from Sinai's brow" "The Lord will come, the earth shall quake" "The Son of God goes forth to war." This volume includes the poems 'Palestine', 'Europe', A Sonnet to Sir Rowland Hill, "The Passage of the Red Sea", and Translations of Pindar. Hardback with paper covered boards. Externally, worn. There is some significant wear to the extremities including significant loss to the spine, some bumping and markings. There is also a white label to the front board as can be seen above. There are two small ink inscriptions to the front free end paper. Internally, generally firmly bound, though the binding has split in one place. Pages are generally bright with some areas of mild spotting and the odd mark. Good.
