Auch im ersten Quartal 2015 scheint sich diese Tendenz mit 55% der ???bergriffe zu best???tigen. Gleichzeitig flie???t durch die Region, insbesondere durch die Stra???e von Malakka, ein Drittel des Welthandels sowie ein Gro???teil der fossilen Brennstoffe der asiatischen L???nder (vgl. Feldt, Roell, Thiele 2014). Europa als Handelsgro???macht hat ein besonderes Interesse an dieser Region. 2011 fanden 33% der Importe und 38% der Exporte der EU mit Partnern des ASEM statt (vgl. Tseng 2014). Trotz des hohen Seehandelsaufkommens und der nicht zu vernachl???ssigenden Piraterieproblematik in der Region, ist das politische Engagement der Europ???ischen Union in S???dostasien vergleichsweise gering. Vor diesem Hintergrund erwachsen folgende Fragen: Wie stark sind asiatische Nationen und Europa von der Piraterie der Region betroffen? Welche Ma???nahmen werden angewandt um der Problematik entgegen zu wirken? Welche Gr???nde k???nnen als m???gliche Ursache f???r diese Handlungsweise identifiziert werden? L???sst sich dieses Verhalten mithilfe traditioneller politischer Theorieans???tze der internationalen Beziehungen erkl???ren? Das Hauptargument dieses Essays ist, dass Multilateralismus die vorherrschende Form der Sicherheitspolitik zwischen S???dostasien und Europa bez???glich des Konfliktfelds der Piraterie ist.
