Unfortunately, Phunk Roc, the third album released by Future Loop Foundation, doesn't really separate itself at all. Barrott and Michael Dog constructed a tight, streamlined album -- halfway between jazzy drum'n'bass, jump-up, and the more psychedelic leanings of previous Planet Dog material -- but there's little to grasp on to and few ideas that haven't been heard on countless jungle albums previously. Give them credit for tailoring the entire album as a continuous work (and for mixing things up with the languorous down-tempo track "Coming Down"), but for the most part Phunk Roc just cruises on by without making much of a statement. ~ John Bush, Rovi
