Jack Delano's "photographic memories" include the struggles of migrant workers and the homefront contributions of ethnic and minority groups living in the shadow of the Depression. Employed as a photographer by the Historical Section of the Farm Security Administration (FSA), Delano later settled in Puerto Rico, where he has been a constant participant in the island's cultural life. This memoir includes rare photos from his FSA years, along with cartoons, personal snapshots and film stills.

Seller's Description:
Fine in Fine jacket. First edition. Small quarto. 221pp. Fine in fine dustwrapper. From the library of the artists Ben Shahn and Bernarda Bryson Shahn, with an estate label designed by their son, Jonathan Shahn. Ownership signature of Louise Rosskam. Delano, Ben Shahn, and Edward Rosskam were all FSA photographers. According to the text, after his FSA and military service, Delano was encouraged to come to Puerto Rico by Ed and Louise Rosskam, which he did when he recieved only the second Guggenheim Fellowship in photography (the first had gone to Edward Weston) and where he remained for most of the rest of his life. Presumably Bernarda Shahn got this book from her close friends and neighbors the Rosskams.
