An extensive account of the history of Lapps and the ancient way of living in nomadic mountain Lapps, Finno-Ugric-speaking people inhabiting Lapland, now known as Sápmi, encompassing large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and of the Murmansk Oblast, Russia.  Traditionally, the Sámi have pursued a variety of livelihoods, including coastal fishing, fur trapping, and sheep herding. This charming volume by Katherine McFarlane, explores their fascinating history, embellished with a series of numerous decorations in text, sketches, and and full page plates, twelve in colour.  The first edition of 1963. With the unclipped dust wrapper.  From the library of Sir Philip Brocklehurst, known as a member of the Nimrod Expedition in Antarctica of 1907-09 led by Ernest Shackleton. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally excellent with only minor shelf wear and a minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. With minor tape marking to the front and rear boards, with a minor staining mark to the rear board. With minor tape remains to the endpapers. The dust wrapper is sound with some shelf wear and chipping, with a minor loss to the front and rear wraps, and tail to the spine; some edge wear, unclipped. Internally, firmly bound.
