The Petits Chanteurs were founded in 1956 and have been led by Gilbert Patenaude since 1978, although he worked as an associate conductor with this choir long before, leading its first Analekta release, Adeste Fidelis, in 1969. The objective here is "heavenly peace" in a program culled from some of the standards of sacred choral literature, presumably gathered in order to inspire a sense of inner comfort. A few do, such as the lovely Saint-Saëns setting of the Ave verum, the Duruflé motets, and in parts of the Antonio Lotti mass included here; titled Messe à trois voix (voix egales)," this turns out to be a C major work well known to the Petits Chanteurs' Viennese counterparts as the so-called Studentenmesse.
