Patti Jacobson started out as just another nice 15-year-old high-school girl in Duluth, Minnesota with a wonderful 18-year-old sister, Laura, whose solution to boring weekend-night TV is to turn to little sis and suggest going out for a beer! Mom and Dad probably won't even care, either--as long as they're not boozing it up in the same bar Patti and Laura choose. Patti eventually agrees that night...and the next time Laura asks...Soon it's a regular thing, just hanging out at bars, drinking, dancing, flirting...Then she meets Dennis.
Dennis is gorgeous, well-dressed, well-spoken. Dennis offers Patti a job that could make her rich! Patti has grown up with just short of enough, so she pursues this interesting line, anyway. Nothing illegal, right? Right. Nothing illegal. Providing an important service that people need.
Well, you can see by the cover and the synopsis what it is. (Don't worry, it's not disgustingly in-your-face graphic. But she's not folding jeans at The Gap or all dolled up in saddle shoes and poodle-skirt waitressing at a '50's-style diner.)
But for awhile....it actually seems like a good deal!
Then things get complicated. Patti gets busted--in more ways than one. (Yes, you guessed it. Oh, and Laura's not exactly making top Ivy League grades and meeting a Mr. Right who will get the thumbs-up from all the in-laws.) But it's not so easy to change her course, and change her course she does not--she just keeps moving, meeting the same kinds of people (even with similar names. Oh, and one night she meets the husband of WILL & GRACE's "Karen"! No, not really) everywhere she finds herself. Is she beyond hope of ever FINDING HERSELF?
In all the universe, there is Someone who believes that she is not beyond hope, and He even tries to put people on her path of whom she'll be reminded when she's approached by representatives of The Walter Hoving Home at JUST the right time--when she wonders how in the world her so-called life could get any worse, any more out-of-her-control.
