Detective Chief Inspector Peach eventually wins and arrests the murderer (despite Chief Superintendent Tucker's ineffective and mistaken overview of the situation) but the reader is kept guessing all the time with various false leads and motives - all of which seem perfectly sound at the time.
J. M. Gregson has written a really enthralling mystery which I thoroughly enjoyed.
