If instead the innovator sells equipment that embodies the innovation it is termed an equipment manufacturer or manufacturer innovation. This would be the case if improved welding equipment were invented by an industrial machinery manufacturer who then sold it to users for implementation in their plants. And if the innovator benefits because the innovation promotes the use of some other production process input that he sells, it is a supplier.
