Seller's Description:
None. Very Good. A scarce edition of this work on eighteenth-century parish law. Fifth edition. Joseph Shaw (16711733) was an English legal writer. In later life Shaw settled at Epsom in Surrey, and devoted himself to legal study. In 1728 he published The Practical Justice of the Peace, which attained its sixth edition in 1756. Shortly before his death he published a companion volume entitled Parish Law, dedicated to his personal friend, Sir John Fortescue Aland, justice of common pleas, which remained a standard work on the subject. Rebacked in calf with original boards preserved. Externally smart. Some light wear to the original leather. Some light wear to the extremities also. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and mainly clean, though with some tidemarks to the front endpapers and the occasional spot. Very Good.
