crowds are ancient, crowds are good
When I picked up this book I loved the premise - following in the footsteps of ancient tourists to Greece, Turkey and Egypt. Tony makes the trip in the company of his pregnant girlfriend, which isn't something I can relate to - I usually travel solo sans possible children - but his personal life really doesn't intrude into the great stories he has to tell. He does a good job incorporating ancient accounts into his modern one...I have a feeling that a great deal of editing must have gone into this book, but I think the results are good. Wish I could take the same trip! You don't have to watch the history channel 24/7 to enjoy these stories, but some interest in classical civilizations is recommended.
