Classical scholar Robinson Ellis (1834-1913) studied at Balliol College, Oxford, under Benjamin Jowett, before becoming a Fellow of Trinity and, in 1893, Corpus Professor of Latin. His 1876 Commentary on Catullus (also reissued in this series) publicised the Codex Oxoniensis but overlooked its significance and was criticised by other scholars in the field.
