Once England's ASV/Living Era began issuing double-disc sets on major artists like Glenn Miller, Peggy Lee, and their subject here, Judy Garland, the label's fastidious attention to detail reaped major dividends for swing and vocal fans. Over the Rainbow and Beyond is probably the most sweeping collection of Garland's early career ever compiled, barring only box-set compendiums like The Complete Decca Masters (Plus) or Judy on 32 Jazz. Over two discs and 50-plus tracks, Over the Rainbow and Beyond tells the story of Garland during the '30s and '40s (and misses nothing major), from the obvious ("Over the Rainbow," "[Dear Mr. Gable] You Made Me Love You," "The Trolley Song") to the sorely neglected ("For You, for Me, for Evermore," "You've Got Me Where You Want Me").
