Charlie Peacock has produced some of the brightest artists in contemporary Christian music with remarkable results. Out of the Grey's self-titled debut album is no exception. With the angelic voice of Christine Dente singing around Scott Dente's skillful guitar work, this husband and wife duo creates new inroads in an already multifaceted genre. While the music is driving, edgy, and at times haunting, this album's true strength lies in its lyrics, as well as in the emotion that the prolific and gifted storytellers give those lyrics. The honesty and realism with which these two write give way to personal identifications for their listeners, who may be given the feeling that someone knows their deepest thoughts. Whether speaking of family members, as in the album's opener "Wishes," or of their own relationship, as described in "The Dance" and "Perfect Circle," Out of the Grey approaches its subjects with an openness and vulnerability that is both refreshing and captivating. But the conviction of faith as expressed in songs like "He Is Not Silent" and "Write My Life" is where Out of the Grey's true glory shines. Making this collection of songs so appealing is the idea that all relationships, both holy and human, are worthy of the investment of our energy and time. So is this album. ~ Daniel Malich, Rovi
