Built to last, if let alone, till the knell of doom, these old houses of Edin burgh have, with few exceptions, yielded to no element but fire - and a mighty blaze they make Such acci dents, however, being of rare occurrence, that long, lofty, rock-lookin g ridge, which heaves its back up from the Castle down to Holyrood, has much the same aspect that it had three hundred years ago.
