Very Good. First edition. Two volume set. Large folios. 200 plates, including many double-page plates, volume one (1852) with an illustrated title-page. Volume one Signed and dated by Count Paul Stroganoff (1867), Privy Counsellor to the Czar and namesake of the famous Russian dish. Both volumes Signed by Count Gregoire Stroganoff (St. Petersburg, 1870), a connoisseur of European paintings who assembled an important collection of Egyptian art, with one other small signature underneath from 1880. Contemporary half morocco and marbled paper boards, marbled endleaves. Ex-library copy, with spine labels, bookplates, paper shelf labels on the rear endleaves, and one small stamp to the upper margin of the plates, else very good. A handsome set with fine plates depicting Christian mediaeval metal work in great detail.
